I’ve been tagged….

My friend Emily at Amazing Grapes tagged me in a post and since I haven’t blogged in 5 months, at least this is a post.  So, I’m supposed to do the following.

1. you must post the rules.
2. post 11 fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
3. answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create 11 new questions to ask the people you've tagged.
4. tag 11 people and link them on your post
5. let them know you've tagged them!

Here are my fun facts:

1.  I am 100% obsessed with the Backstreet Boys.  Have been since I was 19 years old.  Something funny?  I bought their CD with I was maybe a sophomore in high school and hated it.  So, I sold it.  When I was 19, I had to go back and buy it again because by then I was in love…..all thanks to their Disney Channel concert special.  My little sister, who was 9 at the time, is 100% to blame for my unhealthy crush on AJ.

2.  I should be hooked up to a Diet Coke IV to just make my consumption more streamlined.  Although I set a goal this week to only have 2 sodas a day (and not two 44 oz. sodas…..2 12 oz. cans….I’m proud to say I did a great job!)

3.  I have gone on at least a 5 day vacation with my husband (sans children) every year since we have been married.  I highly recommend this practice.  It’s good for us AND the kids.

4.  I recently started working out 3-4 times a week by going to the gym and doing different types of group exercise classes.  I thought I was coordinated until I tried Zumba.

5.  In order to really want to go to the gym, I bought my first ever real workout clothes within the past month.  Would you believe that even with my athletic background, I’ve never really had honest to goodness workout clothes?

6.  I am pretty sure I have an addictive personality, which is one of the many reasons why I don’t drink, smoke, etc.  That and, of course, it’s against my religion Smile

7.  I have met the Backstreet Boys 3 times in person (see, I have already talked about them twice….totally obsessed) and gave AJ my phone number (long story about that one but needless to say he never called……or did he?  I had a blocked number call me the day after and didn’t answer it in time….I’ll never know)

8.  My sister is exactly 10 years, 6 months, and 22 days younger than me…..and there are no other siblings.

9.  My first car was an old volkswagon bug that has a metallic blue paint job as per my request (my grandpa pretty much thought I was the coolest person ever and did it for me) and personalized license plates.

10.  Me and two of my best friends in high school would pile in the front seat of that bug during 2nd period to go and get sodas and donuts….and yes we would bring some back for the teacher, who never complained of us being late to his class.

11.  I stay up way too late almost every night and am mad at myself every single morning for doing it.

No, since Emily tagged me, here are the questions she asked me to answer.

1.How old were you when you had your 1st kiss?  I do believe I kissed Trevor Rollins when I was 3.  Does that count?  The first one where I knew what it was about was in the 6th grade….so however old I was then.  11 or 12?
2.Do you remember your first kiss’s name? If so, what is it?  Trevor Rollins at age 3 and Kelly Blackburn in the 6th grade.
3.Where’s the furthest you’ve traveled?  Probably Puerto Rico
4.Where’s your favorite place to getaway?  If it’s local, either my bedroom, bathtub, or somewhere to get a massage.  It it’s not local, anywhere with a beach.
5.What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?  Cookie dough
6.Do you prefer a wood fireplace or gas fireplace? and why?  Gas.  It’s easier and I don’t have to clean it.
7.What was your very first car?  Haha!  See my random facts above.
8.If you were forced to choose between a chapstick, toothbrush or hairbrush to go with you on a deserted island, which one would you pick?  Good question!  I would probably say toothbrush (but only if I could bring toothpaste too….otherwise what’s the point?).  My first thought was chapstick but maybe I could find a plant with some moisturizer type stuff and dreadlocks would just have to be ok.
9.What past time period would you like to live in? and why?  I wouldn’t want to go back in time at all.  We have life so easy and I am incredibly high maintenance so I need the modern conveniences.  But, if I HAD to choose, maybe Victorian and I have no idea why…..the pretty dresses?
10.Which food could you not live without?  Bread.
11.Which food do you believe is of the devil? {figuratively speaking of course}  Maple butter Blondies from Applebees.

Now I’m supposed to tag 11 people.  If you want to do it, feel free.  It’s fun.

Rachael, Chelsea, Chalise, Sarah, Tiffany, Karen, and since I’m a slacker blogger, and it appears that a lot of my friends are too, so I don’t know if they’ll even see this post or not, so if there is anybody else out there who wants to participate, feel free Smile

Here are my 11 questions to you.

1.  Where is your favorite vacation spot?

2.  Would you rather sleep in or wake up with the sun and why?

3.  Who is your oldest friend (not oldest in age but who have you been friends with the longest?) and what is your favorite thing about him/her?

4.  What is your favorite song and why?

5.  If you were stranded on a desert island, what are 3 things you would like to have there with you (assuming you already had food and shelter).

6.  What’s one word that describes you?

7.  What’s a phrase or word that you say all the time?

8.  When someone meets you, what do you think their first impression of you is?

9.  If you suddenly had one million dollars given to you, what would you do with it?

10.  If you could spend an entire week by yourself, in your own home, without your children, hubby, friends, etc., what would you do with your time?

11. How many states have you visited?

Labor Day in P-Town

Ok, so spending time in Parowan over Labor Day is pretty much the best ever.  I don’t know if it’s the small town stuff, or if it’s just more about being with family that rocks but whatever it is, I look forward to the Iron County Fair every. single. year.

I mean, seriously, how cute is this?!  Thank goodness my grandparents buy pre-sale carnival tickets and donate them to us because who can actually afford to take their kids to the stinkin’ carnival?!  The prices to ride the rides and play the games are, in my humble opinion, FREAKIN’ OUTRAGEOUS!  We figured out how much it costs both kids to ride the Merry Go ‘Round…..$6!!!!  WTH?

And then to play the games….$5 for two stupid toys.  Oh well.  That’s what Grandma Les is for.  She ALWAYS lets my kiddos play the overpriced carnival games.  They love it, she loves it, and everybody is happy.  Here is Naiya with the two balls she won from playing the duck pond game.  Don’t you just love the placement of them?  Haha!

And Tyler with his sword.  Funny story about the duck pond game.  Obviously the chances that you will win a large prize are very slim.  Even a medium prize is highly coveted.  Well, the first time they played, Tyler chose two small prized ducks and Naiya got a medium one!  Naiya is one luck duck!  (I’m so punny, lol!)

The last day we were there, we let the kids play again (grab 3 ducks for $5….such a rip off!).  Well, Tyler pulls 2 small prize ducks again and Naiya pulled… guess it, a LARGE prized duck!  Probably the only one in the whole pond!  Even the lady running the game was surprised!  Anyway, Naiya chose a huge stuffed pink dolphin, Tyler chose another crummy prize, and cried about the fact that Naiya got something better than him.  Yay for carnival games.

And here is my awesome mom cuddling Naiya before we headed to her house.  It was Naiya’s nap time and she needed some grandma cuddle time before we headed home.  I love my mom….she’s the best.

Being in Parowan in the summer also means trips to the cabin.  Karl, Tyler, and I headed up one afternoon and Tyler and I played several games of darts.  Tyler has some nice form here.

Yeah, that’s right….I got a legitimate bullseye!  First. One. Ever!  Of course that warrants a picture of me in my super awesome sweatshirt….a Lady Rams sweatshirt.

Then it was an early birthday party for Naiya. There is really no reason to actually celebrate in Vegas yet since she doesn’t really have ‘friends’ per se, so we wanted to celebrate with family.  Obviously she racked up the loot.

Yep, my kids are the awesome-est!

Naiya went to Aunt Raelene to get help with lots of her presents.

And then Tyler pretty much opened them for her Smile

Then she got to blow out the candles on the cake that my Grandma Joan made especially for her.

The Labor Day parade is the best part of being in Parowan for Labor Day.  Not because of the super awesome floats (anybody who has been to a Parowan parade knows how us small town folk roll with the floats…..pretty much anything we can throw together works), but because we get to hang out with family, see people we haven’t seen in FOREVER (like since high school), and just chill out.

My little sis, my mom, and Naiya.  See that building in the background?  That is the world famous Dairy Freeze.  Yeah, I worked there when I was 16 (not in that building….it was renovated since I worked there) for $2.16 an hour.  We got paid that little because there was the chance that we could get tips.  I think the most I ever got in tips was like $5 for the whole shift.  Good times.

My mom with Naiya and Taylor.  Um, Karl looks super sexy in the background.

How funny is this picture?!  Naiya was eating a Laffy Taffy or a saltwater taffy or something and it looked like she had blue fangs.

Just in case you missed the blue fangs the first time.  She looks super tired….I think she was mid-blink when I took the picture.

Anyway, we love visiting Parowan.  Such a fun small town!

Naiya’s 2 year stats

I had to get this written down before I forgot.  Naiya had her 2 year well check today and she weighs 26 pounds and is 33 inches long.  She is in about the 30th percentile for height and 40th for weight.  And her head is in the 70th (it has to be that big to hold all those smarts, right?).  Too cute.  But, she is doing well and she was great for the doctor, as soon as she freaked out for about 5 minutes.  Our pediatrician is great and talked to her until she calmed down to do her exam.  She’s awesome.

Summer wrap up

Sheesh!  If I can ever just keep up with this blog it will be a huge surprise.  I guess it’s just easier to put pictures on FB and that way I know people will comment…..seems like that’s where most of my friends spend their time.  Or is that just where I spend my time?  But, people comment on FB….they don’t comment frequently here.  Is anybody out there?

So, August was a super fun month.  You’ve seen my post from when we went to the beach, our anniversary, and Tyler’s start of school.  We wrapped up August by going to see the Beatles LOVE show.  Our friend’s son is in it and so they scored us some free tickets….which go upgraded!  We were on the 2nd row!  It was pretty fun.

Taking some pics before the show.

Jake, who plays one of the ‘Boys of Liverpool’ in the show.  Pretty cool that now we know two people who are in shows on the strip.  Yeah, that makes us almost famous.

The show was GREAT!  I’m a huge fan of Cirque du Soleil shows.  They always entertain.  Thanks to Chet and Terraza for the tickets!  We had a blast!

Tyler’s First Day of School!!

Today is Tyler’s first day of Kindergarten!  He is SO excited!  He woke up this morning and did everything that I asked him to do to get ready.  He says he is most excited for Science.  I sure hope they do Science so he’s not disappointed :-)

He’s going to a brand new charter school this year and almost everyone that we know is going there too.  However, NOBODY is in his full day kindergarten class that we know.  He will have to make new friends but since he’s good at that I’m not worried.

With this new school, the pick up and drop off procedure is a little crazy but I’m sure it will all start to get streamlined really soon.  Here are just a few pictures of him.  I can’t believe he’s old enough to go to kindergarten!

In his snazzy school uniform.  I am loving that there are uniforms.  It makes getting ready for the day SO easy.  He is holding up the little card I put in his pocket with his teacher’s name and room number.  Um, his feet look HUGE in this picture and of course Naiya had to join in :-)

Seriously….how cute is he?!

Waiting in the line to drop him off….he’s still excited!

Almost there!  His backpack there are a TON of school supplies.  Apparently we were maybe supposed to bring them when we met his teacher on Friday but we’re new at this so whatever.  Tomorrow we will send him with more.

Here he is in line to go into the school.  Parents weren’t really supposed to walk with the kids to their lines but since he is still my baby, and Karl was driving, I jumped out to make sure he got to the right place.  I’m glad I did so that I could take a few extra pictures.

Saying the Pledge of Allegiance.  I am SO glad that they are doing that.  You can tell that Tyler’s backpack is crazy heavy since he is hunched over.

Tyler’s teacher is the one in pink holding the sign. She seems nice.

Walking into the school!  I’m not gonna lie…..there were tears.  Tyler seemed to have no anxiety or nervousness at all.  The tears were all mine.  Sometimes when I think about him at school, I get teary eyed again.  I always think he's such a big boy but he looked so small standing next to everyone else!

This is how Naiya felt about Tyler going to school.  She was sad for quite some time.  Karl went back to work full time today too so her two favorite people are going to be gone all day.  Yep, I come in 3rd on her list.

It’s an exciting day at our house.  I can’t wait to hear how his first day goes!

Beach Bums

Since Tyler starts school this year, we wanted to take a family vacation to the beach.  Naiya has never been and typically when we all go somewhere as a family, it’s too visit either my family or Karl’s family.  It was SO much fun for the 4 of us to head to Southern California for 4 days and just hang out.

Tyler LOVES the beach. Well, I guess I should say, he loves it until his attention span runs out.  He would usually be good for 1-2 hours and then want to go home.  To be honest, with little kids there, that’s about all I could handle too.

My little bathing beauty :-)

Naiya’s first time in the ocean.  She was not a fan.  The water was super cold and afterwards she clung to Karl because she was scared.  She wouldn’t go near the water for the rest of the trip.

In this picture, she is still a little freaked out by the water :-)

Family picture!

Karl and Tyler played in the water constantly.  They also build sand castles and had a blast together while Naiya and I sat up on the sand so that she could play away from the water.

I LOVE this picture!  Naiya was still a little wet and it was cold so we got wrapped up and she cuddled super tight (which she never does).  I just love this girl!

I thought it would be fun to go to Santa Monica’s Third Street Promenade since the first time I went I remember seeing tons of street performers and having a blast.  This time….not so much.  It was still fun but there were only 2 performers so basically we just walked up and down the street and left.

Day 2 at the beach.  Isn’t Naiya’s swimsuit cute?!  This was one good thing about the Third Street Promenade….clearance sale at Old Navy….which is where we got her suit.

One of my favorite pictures ever of T-Bone.  He looks so grow up and super pumped to be at the beach.

And proof that both of us were there at the same time.  Um, we are pretty much the two pastiest people ever.

I had to post this picture.  We stayed at the Howard Johnson in Stanton and this was posted on the room almost directly below ours.  I don’t know if you can read what it says but basically it says that in June the room was seized and it was under investigation since methamphetamine was either stored or manufactured there.  Good times.

Day 3.  We went to the Huntington Beach Pier and stayed at Huntington Beach all day.  The morning started out chilly but by about 1pm it warmed right up and was the best beach day of the trip.

I love this picture!  Tyler is walking in front of us with Naiya cuddling with Karl.  It pretty much describes our two kids.  Tyler wants to explore and Naiya is a daddy’s girl :-)

We rented a car bike for an hour and rode up and down the beach.  We got tons of smile from passers by since those kids are just too darn cute!  Or, it might have been that they were constantly fighting :-)

Our ‘camp’ set up on day 3.  This is the way to relax at the beach….having some shade to come back to was amazing.

Naiya sleeping on me….which never happens!  It was nice.

Although it was nice to cuddle with her, it was a little chilly in the shade, and I got uncomfortable so I moved her to a towel where she slept for almost 2 hours!  AWESOME!

The last beach picture.  We decided we need to make it a tradition to go to the beach before school starts each year (or do a family vacation with just the 4 of us).  It was SO much fun!
